In 1984 Kathrin Messner and her husband Josef Ortner brought a plot of land in a small fishing village 70km south of Colombo with the idea of establishing a school.
To support the school they opened the Bogenvillya guesthouse which offers Ayurvedic treatments and meals. Today the Bogenvillya's Head Chef Chamila Piyantha, runs a small kitchen that prepares wonderful dishes from local ingredients, based on the principals of Ayurveda.
In 1995 the One World Foundation was established and opened a school with 100 students and 3 teachers. The school has grown to 1,100 children and adults and employs 37 teachers.
One World provides free education for preschool and grades 1 thru 11 and occupational training programs are available for women.
